What is the Bloomington, IL Farmers’ Market?
Located in downtown Bloomington, the farmers’ market is a concept that’s been around since 1974. Nowadays, it’s run by the local City of Bloomington’s Economic & Community Development Department as an initiative to help keep the downtown area energized. We personally think that’s working out pretty well. We love spending our Saturday mornings shopping and eating good food here! It’s one of our favorite fun and free events in the area.
This is a producer-only market, making it the perfect place for residents and visitors of Bloomington-Normal to be able to buy fresh food directly from the people who grew it.
Whether you’re looking for fresh veggies, fruit, meats, cheeses, eggs, honey, spices, flowers or home-cooked bakery products, you can find whatever you need (and plenty of stuff you didn’t need, but still want!) at the Bloomington, IL Farmers’ Market.
Even if your fridge is already stocked, having a look around is always a great Saturday morning activity, especially because local artists also sell all sorts of home décor and other items. The vendor line-up changes regularly, so there’s always something new to sample.
Between May and October, you can find the Farmers’ Market at the Bloomington Downtown Square. It’s open every Saturday from 7:30 am until noon. It’s dog friendly.
During the winter months, the Farmers’ Market is held once a month at the Grossinger Motors Arena from 9 am until noon. There are special events for Thanksgiving and Christmas.
Tip: If you’d like to see the latest market dates, vendors and activities, have a look at the Farmers’ Market’s own Instagram account for all their updates. They’re always looking for volunteers as well!
