4 Great movie theaters in Bloomington, IL

Staying in Bloomington-Normal, IL and looking for something to do tonight? There are four movie theaters in the area. Perfect for a calm evening out or as a start to a big night!

Marcus Bloomington Cinema + IMAX

Located in the western part of Bloomington, Marcus Bloomington Cinema + IMAX is the most popular cinema within the Bloomington-Normal area. It’s the only movie theater that offers IMAX, an enhanced movie watching experience that includes a curved screen, improved sound and more. You can even book private screenings!

If you want to go out for dinner and a movie, you’re at the right place here. Marcus Bloomington doesn’t just have offer a great cinema experience, but also features a lounge and pizza restaurant. Additionally, it offers a full menu to enjoy right from your seat during the movie itself.

AMC CLASSIC Normal 14

AMC CLASSIC is the go-to budget movie theater in the city, located in the northern part of Normal. If you go before 4pm, you can score your movie tickets for as little as $4.49 plus tax here! On Tuesdays, tickets are $5 all day. No need to break the bank, while still getting access to all the current hits. 

Aside from its movies, AMC offers all the typical cinema fare - not just popcorn and soft drinks, but also flatbreads, fried chicken, pretzels and more. You can place your order online so it’s ready when you arrive.

The Normal Theater

Looking for a more small-time, historic location? The Normal Theater is a restored movie theater that was reopened in 1994 but actually dates all the way back to 1937. In fact, the building is on the National Register of Historic Places and even has its very own Wikipedia page.

The Normal Theater doesn’t offer all the current new releases, but rather focuses on classic, arthouse and international cinema in an art deco setting. Great for something a little different! It’s located in Uptown Normal, next to the university campus and plenty of bars, restaurants and other establishments. 

Harvest Moon Drive-In Theatre

Have access to a car? You’re in for a treat: around 45 minutes from the center of Bloomington-Normal, over in neigboring Gibson City, is the Harvest Moon Drive-In Theatre. As its name suggests, this is a classic drive-in: it was “reborn” in 1989 but has been around since 1954. 

Despite being a drive-in, Harvest Moon offers all the comforts you could ask for. It has two screens, great sound quality and plenty of food and drink options - while still maintaining that nostalgic ‘50s feel.

Note: This movie theater is open from March to October, although they will make an exception for things like holiday showings. Take a look at their event agenda to check what you can expect!
